As the days get warmer and the evenings stretch a little longer, there’s no better excuse to get outdoors.
And on the North Coast, we are spoilt for choice.
Whether it’s a family day out, an adventure on two wheels or simply some fresh air and fun, these are the outdoor activity spots Ballito locals voted as their Best Outdoor Activity in the Best of Ballito Readers’ Choice Awards.
1st – Sugar Rush Park

There’s a reason Sugar Rush Park remains a firm family favourite.
Set along Esenembe Road, this much-loved destination packs plenty into one outing, with something to keep almost every member of the family entertained.
Adventure-seekers can take to the Tree Trails, while the Jump Park gives energetic kids plenty of opportunity to bounce, climb and play.
Little ones can hop aboard the Sugar Rush Express, and the whole family can enjoy some friendly competition on the putt-putt course. You can even hunt for antiques at the Vintage Barn.
When it’s time to refuel, grab a bite at Food Fundi Café, a coffee from Brustar or cool down with a Scoop ice cream.
With food, adventure and activities for all ages, Sugar Rush makes it very easy to turn a quick visit into a full day of family fun.
2nd – Flag Animal Farm

For an outing that puts kids up close with the animal world, Flag Animal Farm is hard to beat.
The Sheffield Beach attraction is home to more than 1 000 animals, from mammals and birds to reptiles, with plenty of opportunities for children to see, touch and learn.
There are outdoor playgrounds, a splash park (this is a huge hit on a hot day), pony and horse rides and free-roaming animals, while reptile enclosures, alligators and a bike track add to the adventure.
With nine covered party venues too, it’s little wonder generations of North Coast families have made memories here.
3rd – Holla Trails

If your idea of a great day outdoors involves getting the heart pumping, Holla Trails delivers.
Starting from Sugar Rush Park, its network of scenic trails takes mountain bikers, runners and walkers through some of the North Coast’s beautiful countryside.
Choose a challenging endurance ride, head out for a trail run or slow things down with a leisurely walk.
Guided group rides are available and bikes can be hired too, making it easy to join the fun even if you don’t have your own wheels.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply keen to explore, Holla offers an outdoor adventure at your own pace.
