Tongaat’s Nandlal brothers turned a lack of early opportunities into a strong work ethic, perseverance and success in a wide range of healthcare fields.

Three of the four brothers, general practitioner Sanjay, gynaecologist Vikesh and dentist Anil, qualified as doctors, while Sandesh is the CEO of South African Medical Services, a medical supply company. Vikesh (Best Gynaecologist) and Anil (Best Dentist) both claimed top spots in Best of Ballito 2026.

“We grew up in Buffelsdale in the equivalent of RDP housing,” said eldest brother Sanjay, whose practice is at 27 Belvedere Drive in Tongaat.

“Our father was a bricklayer and our mother a homemaker. The school we attended had the bare minimum, and we shared hand-me-down clothes, but we were always taught the importance of education.”

Anil initially qualified as an engineer before studying dentistry, bringing all four brothers under the healthcare umbrella.

“Surprisingly, we don’t talk shop when we are together,” said Anil, whose dental practice is at 10 Sanele Nxumalo Lane in Tongaat.

“We are a very close-knit family, seeing each other multiple times a week and taking trips together.”

The brothers also give back to their communities when they can, most recently supporting a coding and robotics room at Pioneer Primary School in Phoenix.

“When you live in a tight community, your name is everything. It’s amazing how many patients we share because they know the Nandlal brand,” said Sanjay.

“We want our story to motivate young people who might not feel they have a chance to succeed. Learn skills, make yourself employable and opportunities will always present themselves.”
