FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I can’t find the company I want to vote for?
The Best of Durban Readers’ Choice awards is presented in a nomination phase and then a voting phase. During the nomination phase (that runs for around a calendar month), readers nominate their favourite businesses. If a business does not appear on the voting lists (Phase Two), it may be because they were not nominated, or – according to the competition rules and in the spirit of fairness – only sub-categories with more than one nominated business are eligible (i.e. a business cannot run unopposed in a sub-category).

Why can I only vote once per category and for only one business in each sub category?
The intention behind the “Best of” awards is for everyone to have (an equal) say and recognise businesses that they love most. To protect the integrity of the results it is important that we limit the number of times each person can vote. We also ask that voters respect the good spirit of this competition and vote with integrity, keeping within the rules (Terms and Conditions) set.
Why am I having trouble voting when connected to Wifi?
For fairness, the system allows only one submission per category (e.g. Professional Services, Pets, Medical, etc.) per IP address — the unique identifier tied to your internet connection. This means that if someone has already voted using the same Wi-Fi or internet connection, you won’t be able to submit your vote from that network.
A less common issue relates to how mobile networks temporarily reuse IP addresses. In these cases, you may unknowingly inherit an IP address that was previously used to submit a vote, even if you haven’t voted yourself.
To resolve these issues, we recommend the following steps:
