Mystic Monkeys ‘wild’ about animal welfare

Mystic Monkeys

At Mystic Monkeys, the team aims to give animals the best possible quality of life, support conservation initiatives and educate the public from the outset.

Christa Saayman founded the organisation more than 20 years ago. It is dedicated to conservation, animal welfare and creating a safe environment where people can learn about and appreciate them.

It came second in the Best Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre category at the 2026 Best of Pretoria awards.

According to Emri Saayman, the public relations officer, it is an honour to be recognised for caring for wildlife and contributing to conservation.

“For us, it is not simply an award – it is recognition of the dedication of our entire team and everyone who works behind the scenes to make what we do possible,” she says.

“There are many long hours, difficult decisions and challenges people don’t always see.”

Saayman says they don’t see wildlife as an attraction: “We see every animal as an individual with specific needs and responsibilities attached to its care.”

She says this recognition encourages them to aim even higher and hopes that, if they inspire even one person, especially a child, they have achieved what they set out to do.

People can get in touch through their website www.mysticmonkeys.co.za, social media platforms Facebook and Instagram or directly by contacting 079 875 3439 or blouduiker@mweb.co.za.

“We are always happy to hear from people interested in wildlife, conservation, animal welfare or supporting the work we do.”
